Your questions answered about coaching for leaders and teams

Businesspeople brainstorming with creative ideas

How do you work with leaders and teams?

We bring deep expertise in leadership development combined with over 20 years of commercial experience in complex, global organisations as senior executives, management consultants and leadership coaches.

Our aim is for leaders and their teams to grow their capabilities to contribute to the success of their organisations whilst enhancing fulfilment and wellbeing for themselves and colleagues.

We coach them to Look out and Look in. For example, individual leaders looking in to their own motivators and values, then looking out to consider how these influence their behaviour and impact. For teams, looking in at their culture then looking out at how they interact with other colleagues and stakeholders to achieve results.

Do you tailor your approach for specific needs?

  • We clarify your strengths and development priorities, through a combination of dialogue, feedback from colleagues and tools which we will recommend.
  • We agree goals for our programme including measurable increases in capability and organisational impact.
  • Our individual and team programmes are tailored to address those goals including number, frequency and focus of individuals and team sessions

How does Executive Coaching work

We clarify your strengths and development priorities with you, through a combination of dialog, feedback from colleagues and tools which we will recommend.

We agree goals for our programme including both measurable increases in individual capability and organisational impact. Our goals and indicators of progress are agreed at the outset with input from your manager.

Our coaching programme is tailored to specifically address these goals including number, frequency and duration of sessions. Coaching sessions combine a review of critical events to gain learnings and working through practical strategies and approaches going forward.

We continually review progress and seek feedback from your manager to help us assess impact. One month before completion of the programme, the coach will gather feedback from the your manager on progress and develop with you a plan for sustaining progress.

What skills do Business Momentum coaches have?

Our coaches have successful track records working with business leaders across a range of sectors. The team has broad cross-cultural experience and we have the capability to deliver coaching in English, French and German.

All our coaches have held senior roles in complex global organisations. They each bring deep expertise in leadership and organisation development. Members of our team have contributed to leadership development in the major international business schools in Europe.

Our coaches adhere to the Code of Conduct of their accrediting body i.e. APECS, ICF or EMCC which all have consistent standards on confidentiality.

Business Momentum's coaches are fully committed to their own development to increase the value they add to clients as well as having a duty of care to ensure that they are adhering to the highest professional and ethical standards. We all, therefore, undertake regular supervision in accordance with the standards of our accrediting bodies.

How to setup an Executive Coaching programme

We identify a client's needs through a combination of dialogue, 360 degree feedback, capability gap assessment and diagnostic tools selected according to client's requirements.

Coaching goals include both measurable increases in individual capability and organisational impact. Goals and measures of success are agreed at the outset with input from the client's manager. The coaching programme is designed to specifically address these goals including number, frequency and duration of sessions.

Coaching sessions combine a review of critical events to gain learnings and working through practical strategies and approaches going forward.

Progress is reviewed continually with the client and impact assessed by seeking feedback from the client's manager/sponsor at agreed intervals eg after 3 or 6 sessions.

One month before completion of the programme, the coach will gather feedback on progress from the client's manager and, if agreed, from other colleagues, and develop a plan for sustainability.

On completion of the programme, Business Momentum will send a "Coaching Evaluation Form" to the client for completion. This helps us evaluate the programme and provides valuable developmental feedback to the coach.

How to handle post merger intergration?

Post Merger Integration

Depending on whose research you reference, mergers have a failure rate of anywhere between 50 to 85 percent. Challenges in integrating very different operating models and cultures are major causes of failure.

Shared Vision

We work with the Leadership Team to create a cohesive, collaborate organisation that combines the strengths of both companies. We start by helping the team to gain a shared understanding of the critical challenges they face as a business. We then coach them to make the changes required to lead effectively together as "one team".

Shaping One Organisation

Typically the next step is to partner with the leadership team to facilitate workshops to engage their colleagues across the organisation to create a shared identity and shape how they will work together.

How to increase employee engagement?

Employee Engagement

To fulfil your aspirations for your business, you need to win the hearts and minds of employees. Engagement is about pride and passion in your work. It drives discretionary effort and performance. When your people are engaged the are highly enthusiastic and committed. But most employees are not engaged. In recent surveys, the global figure is 13%, UK less than 20% and in the US just over 30%.

Creating the right environment

We work with leaders to develop high levels of employee engagement which enables the company to achieve and sustain a reputation with all stakeholders, for success. Central to our approach, is creating a shared sense of pride in the company, building on strengths and committing to clear expectations with colleagues and customers about how they work together. Our approach develops the capability and commitment of leaders and managers to create the conditions across the business in which employees are fully engaged.

Employee Engagement is an integral part of our Post Merger Programmes and is often a key priority for Leadership Teams when we are working with them.

How can leadership help increse team effectiveness

Leadership teams work with us to create their foundations for high performance. We help them change how they interact with stakeholders, building a reputation to be proud of, leveraging strengths, committing to behaviours and processes for working more effectively together.

They strengthen their team identity. They clarify accountabilities, making better use of their talents enabling them to achieve success together.

We challenge assumptions about what is possible. We encourage creativity, drawing inspiration from high performance and leadership beyond the world of business. Our programmes are results oriented. Clients start to experience tangible benefits following the Foundation Workshop at the start of the programme.

Team coaching happens after we have created the foundations for high performance. It involves giving the team feedback on how effectively they are working and input on how they can become more collaborative. It helps them improve their effectiveness as they work on their business leadership agenda. Learning on the job increases their performance.
